Rescue Me ID: 17-10-02-00624Shiner (female)

Bluetick Coonhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

This is Shiner, a purebred bluetick coonhound. We got her about 1.5 years ago from the Humane Society. Prior to the Humane Society she was being bred with another coonhound. She is super sweet, beautiful and calm the majority of the time. She loves to just lay on the couch and snuggle. She does not love being outside for extended periods of time. She is afraid of thunder and will not leave your side. When she is not calm, she jumps around like a rabbit. She gets along with all of the dogs we have encountered, but does bark at them alot. She is also good with children but I would recommend children 5 yrs and older because she has no ... (Read More)body awareness and has knocked my daughter down many times. She is somewhat crate trained, but will still whine at night so we started to leave her out at night. She is a great dog for someone who is looking for a good cuddler, she just isn't right for our family. (Less)

Bluetick Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Jester had a close call at the shelter in GA; he nearly didn't find us, nor us him. But, he is now in Cumming GA where he has been treated for heartworms and is learning his manners. He now knows sit, down, shake and the almighty word NO! We don't think anyone cared to teach him anything, so this training is a must. Jester is housebroken, good with foster dogs and neighbor dogs and cats too. He does need a fair amount of exercise as he part Coonhound. He lives to hunt squirrels or whatever he can chase. Not always comfortable with strangers, Jester is learning to be social. He would do best in an adult home as he can be temperamental at ... (Read More)times.     Bluetick Coonhound Dogs can make good pets in Georgia if they match your IifestyIe. Bluetick Coonhounds are friendly, intelligent dogs bred in the Southern United States. Blueticks are wonderful hunting dogs with a keen sense of smell. Bluetick Coonhounds normally make very good family pets, but can be difficult to train. Blueticks need a large fenced in yard. They will wander off easily to follow a scent if they are not kept on a leash. This hunting dog is not a good choice for households with small non-canine pets.
